Babies' passports are required for international travel
No longer may a caregiver transport a newborn onto an aircraft without providing identification. Due to increased airport security, all U.S. citizens must now have a passport when leaving the country for business or pleasure. Before travel, parents are responsible for acquiring a passport for their children.
First-time applicants for an emergency passport must appear in person at one of the 9000 locations that process passport applications. This requires transporting the neonate and all the necessary documentation to the local post office or passport agency. In some regions, Internet-accessible government offices serve the same purpose as postal acceptance facilities.
The government mandates the presence of both parents when a child's passport is requested. The only exception is if the parent is a single parent, in which case they must provide evidence. A signed consent form will be required if the second parent cannot attend.
The procedure can be streamlined by printing and completing the application form before the office visit. Sign the state only in the presence of the issuing agent; otherwise, the signature will be void, and the form must be remade. A Regional Passport Office may be required to expedite the application procedure if the passport is needed immediately. These offices are in fourteen major cities, including Washington, Chicago, and Los Angeles.
A copy of the infant's birth certificate will be proof of citizenship. The birth certificate should contain the names of both parents as well as the location's official seal. The birth certificate must be submitted to the records bureau within one year of the infant's birth.
Parents must submit copies of their identification documents and the necessary documentation to expedite the application process. A driver's license or state-issued identification card is usually sufficient. Photos will be required, and they must conform to government specifications for passport photos.
Children are challenged to get to stay still for photographs. Due to stringent government regulations, having professionals take pictures may be best. This will ensure that the issuance agent accepts the submitted photos and does not reject them, necessitating a return trip.
